Grapefruit is a fresh, citrusy breakfast staple rich in nutrients
What is white grapefruit?
White grapefruit is essentially a sweet, juicy fruit with contrasting bitter and sour notes. Its botanical name is citrus paradisi. White grapefruit is a natural cross between a pomelo and a sweet orange!
Grapefruit is rich in vitamin C and flavonoids that work as antioxidants and is a great source of salicylic acid as well. These factors are what make grapefruit beneficial for your overall health, including your skin and hair.
Where does grapefruit come from?
Though grapefruit trees can grow anywhere, they were first recorded by a Welsh explorer in 1750 on the island of Barbados. Currently, the biggest population of grapefruit trees is in Florida. The trees were first introduced to the sunshine state from Jamaica at the beginning of the 19th century.
The first documented instance of two fruits coming together to create a grapefruit was in the 1750s. This fusion of pomelo and sweet orange was deemed quite scandalous at the time, and grapefruit became known as the 'forbidden fruit'. Owing to the numerous health benefits of grapefruit, it has become a popular breakfast fruit and is widely embraced for its natural nutrients and benefits.
